The Anglican Church of Australia, formerly the Church of England in Australia and Tasmania, is the Australian province of the Anglican Communion. It is one of the country's largest Christian bodies and today operates as an autonomous national church rather than an established church.
The church consists of 23 dioceses. Most are grouped into five ecclesiastical provinces, while Tasmania stands outside the provincial system. The primate is elected nationally and does not have to be a metropolitan archbishop.
The metropolitan sees are in the capital-city dioceses of the five provinces, while the Diocese of Tasmania remains extra-provincial within the national church.
| Province or unit | Metropolitan see | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| New South Wales | Sydney | Province of dioceses in New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory |
| Queensland | Brisbane | Province of dioceses in Queensland |
| South Australia | Adelaide | Province of dioceses in South Australia and nearby regions |
| Victoria | Melbourne | Province of dioceses in Victoria |
| Western Australia | Perth | Province of dioceses in Western Australia |
| Tasmania | Hobart | Single extra-provincial diocese within the national church |
