The Anglican Church of Canada is the Anglican Communion province serving Canada. It grew out of the Church of England's colonial presence, became self-governing in the nineteenth century, and now operates as a national church with its own primate, synods, and diocesan structure across the country.
The church follows the usual Anglican pattern of bishops, synods, and dioceses. Authority is shared among the national General Synod, four provincial synods, and the diocesan synods, while the primate serves as the senior national bishop.
Wikipedia summarizes the church as having 29 dioceses grouped into four ecclesiastical provinces. Those provinces are listed below in the same broad terms used in the church's overview material.
| Ecclesiastical province | Role | General region |
|---|---|---|
| Canada | Provincial synod grouping dioceses in Atlantic Canada and eastern Quebec | Atlantic Canada and eastern Quebec |
| Ontario | Provincial synod for most dioceses in Ontario | Ontario |
| Rupert's Land | Provincial synod spanning much of western and northern Canada | Prairies, north, and parts of northwestern Ontario |
| British Columbia and Yukon | Provincial synod for the Pacific region | British Columbia and Yukon |
