Church of Uganda
Intro
The Church of Uganda is the Anglican province for Uganda and traces its modern growth to Church Missionary Society work that began in Buganda in 1877. It became a separate province within the Anglican Communion in 1980 after earlier years in a shared province with Rwanda and Burundi, and today it is one of the communion's largest churches by membership.
Structure
The Church of Uganda is organized as an episcopal province of 39 dioceses, each led by a bishop. The archbishop's fixed see is Kampala, so the primate serves as Archbishop of Uganda and Bishop of Kampala at the same time.
Within each diocese, administration continues through archdeaconries, parishes, and sub-parishes, reflecting a layered local structure that reaches from cathedral cities down to lay-led worshiping communities.
