Parish of the Falkland Islands
Intro
The Parish of the Falkland Islands is an extraprovincial Anglican jurisdiction centered on Christ Church Cathedral in Stanley. It grew out of the much larger historic Diocese of the Falkland Islands, whose oversight once extended across most of South America, but it now exists as a directly supervised parish under the Archbishop of Canterbury.
Structure
Unlike most Anglican member churches, this body is not a province or a multi-diocese national church. It is a single extraprovincial parish in communion with Canterbury, and episcopal oversight is normally exercised through a bishop acting as the Archbishop of Canterbury's commissary.
Its worshiping center is Christ Church Cathedral in Stanley, and the parish's modern identity reflects the steady reduction of the old South American diocese as separate Anglican dioceses and later a regional province were created elsewhere on the continent.
