Spanish Reformed Episcopal Church
Intro
The Spanish Reformed Episcopal Church is the Anglican church in Spain, founded in the late nineteenth century by reform-minded clergy and laity who wanted episcopal order and vernacular worship outside the Roman Catholic Church. Since 1980 it has functioned as an extraprovincial church under the metropolitan authority of the Archbishop of Canterbury, with its cathedral in Madrid.
Structure
The church is a single extra-provincial diocese with a synodical form of governance rather than a purely bishop-centered system. Clergy and laity are both represented in the synod, and the bishop works with that body and its standing committee in the ordinary governance of the church.
For administration it is grouped into three regional zones, while its cathedral and diocesan center are in Madrid. The church also preserves a distinctive Anglican use of the Mozarabic liturgical tradition in Spanish.
